Anderson has finally committed her Homeland performance project to record and, while the politics and reflections on post- 9/11 America might already be slightly stale, musically it triumphs. ‘My Right Eye’ acts almost as a sister song to her seminal ‘O Superman’, as her vocodered voice immediately provokes goosebumps. ‘Only an Expert’, on the other hand, is full of dry humour, as husband Lou Reed’s guitar squalls are laid over Four Tet’s beats. Audacious as ever, Anderson has made a truly fascinating record that deserves to last far longer than the era and mood it aims to capture.
