FIFA tickets go on sale

Rush expected for Abu Dhabi’s last Club World Cup

The clock has begun ticking if you’re up for catching some classic soccer action at FIFA Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi this December. Tickets, which go on sale today, are expected to sell out in record time as this will be the last year Abu Dhabi hosts the event, with it returning to Japan in 2011.

Last year, the tournament saw thousands of fans from across the world descend on the city for a huge festival of football. And you can expect more of the same when the continental tournament winners from each of FIFA’s confederations arrive for this year’s competition, which runs from December 8-18.

So far, teams who’ve booked their place on the flight in to AUH include Italian legends Inter Milan, Papua New Guinean team Hekari United, who became the first non-New Zealand or Australian team to win the Oceania O-League, Pachuca FC from Mexico and Brazilians SC Internacional. The African and Asian champions are yet to be decided as their finals take place in November. The teams will be joined by Abu Dhabi team Al Wahda FC, who booked their place by winning the 2010 UAE League.

Away from the stadium, there will be a host of community activities, including a Football Village on the Corniche and soccer skills classes at schools and universities.

Ticket prices range from Dhs20 for adults for the early-stages of the tournament, to Dhs295 for adults for the final.
