Gagosian announces Abu Dhabi art show

Art heavyweight to exhibit in the capital next month

As any member of the art world’s chin-scratching, canvas-gazing community will tell you, names don’t come much bigger than New York’s Larry Gagosian. He’s the dealer and curator largely credited with masterminding the success of pop art icons like Andy Warhol and Edward Ruscha, and has more recently worked with the likes of Damien Hirst and Cecily Brown. In short, he’s one of the most important, influential figures in modern art. And, in less than a month’s time, he’s coming to Abu Dhabi.

Opening on September 22 at Manarat Al Saadiyat, RSTW (named after Ruscha, Richard Serra, Cy Twombly, Andy Warhol and Christopher Wool), offers a glimpse into Gagosian’s private collection of artworks, mainly made up of pieces produced by the various artists he’s represented over the years. It’s set to be the biggest event to hit the capital’s art scene this year, and offers a tantalising glimpse of the sort of work we can expect come the arrival of Abu Dhabi’s Guggenheim and Louvre galleries in a few years’ time.
