Free weekly events in Abu Dhabi to bring back spirit of 1980s and 1990s

Qasr A Hosn is getting retro

Retro things are big news these days. From quiffs and Air Jordan’s to vinyl and polaroid cameras, nostalgia is big business.

Bringing back the feeling of decades gone by a new bi-weekly event is set to take over one of Abu Dhabi’s most historic sites.

Weekends at Al Hosn, is bringing a host of social and cultural activities, events and programmes to Qasr Al Hosn until Mid-April.

There will be a ’80s and ’90s themed souk alongside film screenings in association with Image Nation, camel rides, live cooking stations selling local food and more.

Image Nation’s Screening the Past programme will showcase documentaries exploring the UAE’s history and heritage, at the souk you’ll find a range of fresh fish, vegetables, carpet stores, spice vendors, books, music, stationary and more and you will also be able to tuck into lots of baked treats, candy floss, roasted peanuts and ice cream.

“This exciting new series of events has been specifically designed to complement the already impressive offerings at the Al Hosn site,” said Salama Al Shamsi, Qasr Al Hosn director at DCT Abu Dhabi.

“Visitors will be able to enjoy a diverse and immersive programme of nostalgic cultural activations across these seven weekends, with the participation of some of Abu Dhabi’s longest-running restaurants and stores that have great cultural significance to the various communities living in the capital.

“Weekends at Al Hosn will offer a festive, family-friendly atmosphere with traditional performances, artisanal demonstrations, and fascinating documentary film screenings that will take visitors on a journey back through the history of the UAE.

“The event reflects DCT Abu Dhabi’s strong commitment to preserving and promoting our culture and history as well as the modern heritage of the emirate.”
