See a massive cultural festival in Abu Dhabi this month

The Al Hosn Festival is back for 10 days

Ready to get stuck into the arts? If you love learning about culture, and seeing cool artistic works and performances, you’re going to love this event.

Abu Dhabi’s annual Al Hosn Festival is making a return this year with a culturally rich, 10-day programme from Thursday November 25 to Saturday December 4.

The festival is being organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and will have an engaging programme of performances, art installations, film screenings, culinary experiences, crafts and design.

The Al Hosn festival celebrates the UAE’s heritage and craftsmanship, and connects those with contemporary art practices. It showcases Abu Dhabi’s awesome cultural scene, and provides a platform for artistic experimentation.

Wondering what you should look out for? Head to Qasr Al Hosn and House of Artisans and you’ll find series of activities centred around Emirati heritage, storytelling and artisanal crafts. Experience the daily life at Qasr Al Hosn during the 1950s and 1960s with the “A Day in the Palace” exhibition, which will also showcase pictures, audio testimonials and interactive elements. There will also be demonstrations of Emirati craftsmanship and artisanal techniques at House of Artisans, where you can take a sensory tour or try out one of the creative photography stations.

Next up, head to the makers’ village, which will feature artists and designers from local and regional concept stores, fashion designers, brands and culinary outlets. Open-air film screenings will take place throughout the festival by ImageNation Abu Dhabi, as well as the second edition of the Gahwa Championships. There will be a variety of creative workshops to take part in, including a coral sculpture session and Arabic calligraphy masterclass from Bait Al Khatt centre.

Additionally, check out cool cultural installations and artistic works on display, plus a special performing arts programme in the indoor and outdoor theatres, featuring renowned musicians and artists. Additionally, interactive installations and workshops will be available at the Courtyard and the Children’s Library.

Building on the success of the Classic Cars Exhibition, which took place at its first edition in 2019, the festival will open with a parade of 50 classic cars, in celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the United Arab Emirates.

Sounds like a true time warp. We’re so ready.
