Amana Healthcare in Abu Dhabi has a brand-new children’s library

Sesame Street’s Bert and Ernie officially opened the new facility in the pediatric wing of the UAE hospital

A brand-new children’s library has been opened in the pediatric wing of Amana Healthcare in Abu Dhabi.

Bert and Ernie were among the Sesame Street favourites who officially launched the new reading facility.

Offering over one hundred books for kids of all ages, the vibrant, colourful space has been created with a view to making all little patients stay in hospital a better one.

Bets of all a whole crew from Sesame Street including Elmo, Cookie Monster and Bert & Ernie rocked up to pose with selfies and read stories to the patients at the hospital.

The kids who frequent the hospital have complex long-term medical needs and so end up spending a lot of time at the Khalifa-based medical centre.

Commenting on the new library, Amana Healthcare’s CEO, Mark McGourty said: “A hospital environment – even one like ours, which is designed to feel like home – can be intimidating and emotionally stressful for children, particularly when they need long-term specialized care. Reading helps kids feel less isolated by encouraging engagement and interaction, and helps build their social, cognitive and language skills.”
