Going to the cinema this week? If you’re wondering what to watch in theatres, you should book a ticket to see Al Kameen (The Ambush) [www.alkameenfilm.com], the latest feature film directed by Pierre Morel (Taken, District 13). The heroic movie was released in theatres across the UAE on November 25, and offers a captivating narrative based on a true story, in addition to being the first-of-its-kind international co-production in the UAE.

In the winter of 2018, men and women of the UAE military are deployed on an aid mission and the mood is high at Mocha Base as three Emirati soldiers anticipate an imminent return home.

While on their final routine patrol, the three soldiers, Ali, Bilal and Hindasi, are ambushed by heavily armed militants on their route through a narrow canyon. Trapped, wounded and out of communication range, they realise the gravity of their situation. The brave soldiers are running out of options, munitions – and time.

The action-packed film unfolds dramatically when their commander at the base realises that the assault on the UAE army patrol was premeditated, and a rescue mission is quickly put into action. It is a tension-filled film with a race to pull off a dangerous mission in an unforgiving landscape – and it’s something made to be seen on the big screen.

Al Kameen (The Ambush) is the first movie of its kind to be filmed in the GCC from producers AGC International and Image Nation Abu Dhabi. It is directed by Hollywood director Pierre Morell, whose work includes Taken starring Liam Neeson. Al Kameen is produced by Derek Dauchy (Victor Frankenstein) and Jennifer Roth (Black Swan) and it is written by Brandon Birtell (Furious 7) and Kurtis Birtell (Medal of Honour). The movie was penned in close consultation with the soldiers involved in the real-life 2018 ambush that inspired the plot.

The dramatic film stars an all-Emirati cast and crew of 400, making it the largest Arabic-language feature film production ever in the GCC. The cast includes Marwan Abdulla Saleh, Khalifa Al Jassem, Mohammed Ahmed, Abdullah Saeed Bin Haider, Saeed AlHarsh, Hassan Yousuf Alblooshi, Khalifa AlBahri, Ghanim Nasser, Mansoor Alfeeli, Hussein Saeed Salem, Abdullah Alrashidi, Talal Al Bloushi, Omar Bin Haider, Ibrahim Musharaakh, Abdulla Al Maqbali, Salem Altamimi, Mohammed Faisal Mostafa, Maitha Mohammed, Yaqoob Thabit, Salim Musabah Khamis Alnaimi, Saoud Al Kaabi and Mahira Abdelaziz.

Additionally, Image Nation Abu Dhabi’s production included a team of Emirati filmmakers and development executives including Hana Kazim, Talal Al Asmani, Alwiya Thani and Alia AlQemzi.
