Kyrie Kristmanson album review

Guitar-toting folk-jazz French Canadian chanteuse’s sophomore album

Origin Of Stars
4/5
Blowing into town like a refreshing blast of Arctic air comes guitar-toting folk-jazz French Canadian chanteuse Kyrie Kristmanson with her sophomore solo album. She’s a rising star back home, and Origin of Stars sees her spin spacious, sometimes-spiky narrative webs sung in a voice of stark crystalline quality. Yet it’s the string-snapping dirt in her playing, off-kilter trumpet blasts, thrumming bass and drums, twitchy Björkisms and the spectral fairy tale quality of her lyrics that create a uniquely bewitching sonic universe.
