Abu Dhabi in basketball team buy-out rumours

Investment company could buy NBA’s Detroit Pistons

Chances are, if you went along to last week’s NBA Jam-Fest Abu Dhabi basketball extravaganza, you may have been inspired to immediately buy a new pair of Nike Airs and a ball, then race off to shoot some hoops on the Corniche’s courts.

Abu Dhabi’s wealthy elites, however, like to aim a bit higher, and, after getting a taste for the high-scoring sport at the Jam-Fest, they’ve allegedly set their sights on owning their own team.

Sources claim that negotiations are ongoing for an Abu Dhabi investment group to buy the Detroit Pistons, a National Basketball Association franchise whose trophy cabinet has been a bit bare in recent years. If the deal goes ahead, it will mean a huge cash boost to the team, which we hope will add a much-needed smile to the faces of the good people of Detroit, what with their motor industry suffering somewhat at the moment.

The Pistons are currently owned by Karen Davidson, who inherited them after the death of her husband William. Investors from Dubai and Qatar are also thought to be interested in the deal.
