The UAE has announced Sunday January 2, 2022 will be an official holiday. The announcement was made in line with recent changes to the work week for government employees.
Residents will therefore have a three-day weekend to start the New Year.

As of January 1, 2022 the weekend will fall on Saturday and Sunday for government employees and schools, making January 2 an official holiday.

With the 50th National Day weekend over, we had expected the next public holiday to arrive in five months.
Eid Al Fitr 2022 is expected to fall on Sunday May 1, depending on which night the new crescent moon is sighted. Eid Al Fitr marks the end of Ramadan 2022 and could give us a five-day break, depending when it falls.
The decision to adapt the working week is intended to boost productivity and improve work-life balance while aligning the UAE with global markets.
Starting from Saturday January 1, 2022 all government employees will work from Monday to Thursday with a half day on Friday, creating a four-and-a-half day working week. Saturday and Sunday will become the new weekend for UAE federal government employees in the New Year.
Friday sermons and prayers will be held after 1.15pm all year long in the UAE.
There will also be flexible working hours and work-from-home options on Fridays.
