UAE New Year 2022 holiday officially announced

A three-day weekend has been confirmed

Looking for some good news to kick off your New Year’s celebrations?

There’s nothing we like more than a public holiday, and that’s exactly how 2022 in the UAE is starting.

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has officially announced that the New Year holiday for all ministries and federal entities is Saturday January 1 with work resuming on Monday January 3. The decision was made based on the new week day work system in the federal government sector.

December 31 falls on a Friday this year and because the new work week takes effect from Saturday January 1 2022, Sunday January 2 is a holiday, too. That means government employees and private sector employees following the new work week will get three days off.

Starting from Saturday January 1, 2022 all federal government employees will work from Monday to Thursday with a half day on Friday, creating a four-and-a-half day working week. Saturday and Sunday will become the new weekend for federal government employees in the New Year.

No specific instructions have been made for the private sector, but private sector companies have already started shifting their working weeks to match the government and so have schools across the UAE.

We’re already looking forward to that long weekend.
