Get fresh for summer with a citrus manicure and some nail art

Anna McCormack gets fresh for the summer at Sugar Urban Nails with a citrus manicure and some nail art.

The promise
This citrusy treatment will leave your skin soft, smooth and smelling divine.

Step-by-step
The greeting you receive at Sugar is warm and welcoming, and it’s no time at all before we’re ushered over to the comfy white seating that lines the walls of the main room of the salon. Perched up with our feet over a basin, our lovely therapist begins with our cuticles. We’re, frankly, embarrassed at the state of them since we haven’t had a manicure in quite some time – but no judgement is passed and our therapist is so gentle we hardly feel the trimming and cleaning. Next up is the nail shaping and we get exactly what we ask for first time around.

With our nails now in an acceptable state it’s on to the citrusy goodness. A little tray bares the three zingy-scented products. First up is the scrub which is gently applied and massaged in all over our hands and forearms up to our elbows. This is gently wiped off with a damp towel and then a light mask is smeared all over. Our hands and arms are eased into long plastic bags before being inserted into long, square mittens that gently warm our hands helping the mask to sink in and get to work. After gently steaming for ten minutes, the mask is removed and a heavenly moisturiser is massaged in.

Our hands and arms are super soft and smell positively edible, and we can barely stop sniffing ourselves long enough to have our polish applied. Keeping with the fruity theme we have a pretty pale mango colour as a base and, since we’re feeling playful, we get a cute little citrus decal painted onto two of our nails.

The results
Our skin is lovely and soft, our nails look great and the scent is refreshing in the summer heat. The nail art is very cute, too.

Pros
The staff at this salon are great – they’re friendly and give a great manicure with professional results in a good time.

Cons
None that we can think of, unless sitting with your hands in heated mittens is a bit too much for you in this weather.
