Oman will stop issuing tourists with visas for 30 days in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), it has been announced.
From Sunday, March 15, tourist visas will not be issued for citizens of any country.
Other measures being enacted from this date include the suspension of all types of sports activities, and all non-class student activities.
Cruise liners will also not be allowed to enter any of the ports of the Sultanate.
Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al-Busaidi, Minister of Interior, said “that the issue is accorded great attention by His Majesty the Sultan and it reflects His Majesty’s concern for the health and safety of all citizens and residents alike”.
The supreme COVID-19 panel, which met yesterday (March 12), also recommended that the public should not travel abroad except in case of emergency, or attend film screenings at cinemas.
The panel is set to remain in constant session to follow up coronavirus pandemic data and accordingly take proper decisions.
