It has recently been announced that Nad Al Sheba will be replaced by the new Meydan Racecourse as the venue for the Dubai World Cup 2010. This follows January reports that the US$1.25billion (Dhs46billion) grandstand project had been postponed. However, following the appointment of new construction firms, it seems to be back on track (excuse the pun).
But Meydan won’t encompass a mere 60,000 capacity grandstand (pah!). ‘Meydan City’ includes plans for a five-star hotel, more than 10 fine-dining restaurants, a covered car parking for 10,000, the Meydan Museum and Gallery, and an IMAX Theatre. Planned to be a self-contained community, it will include office and residential properties, and air-conditioned arcades. Quite frankly, it sounds like you could spend your life there, even if you can’t stand horses. Keep an eye on www.meydan.ae to see how it’s coming along.
