Visitors stuck in the UAE will be granted legal permission to stay

Flights in and out of the country have been suspended

The coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on the UAE and the wider world.

In efforts to stop the COVID-19 virus from spreading across the country, various measures have been put in place.

Mall, restaurants, pools, bars, beaches, parks, cinemas and more have all been closed and flights in and out of the country have been grounded.

Residents and citizens of the UAE are being urged to stay at home and only venture out if strictly necessary.

One of the knock-on effects of flights out of the country being suspended is that visitors to the UAE cannot leave.

But those who have a visit visa expiring needn’t worry as the government have announced steps will be taken to make sure they have legal status during this period.

A statement from the Federal Authority for Identity and CItizenship released on WAM, the country’s official news agency said: “The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship has affirmed that the visitors to the UAE who could not leave the country due to closure of air and land borders will receive necessary support by granting them permission to stay legitimately in the country. A specific mechanism for that will be announced in the few coming days.

“The ICA is keen to deal with various developments arising from the measures taken at both regional and international levels to contain the spread of coronavirus, COVID-19, in a way that will ensure necessary care to all residents of the UAE.”
