Young Chef of the Year

Join Time Out’s search for Abu Dhabi’s best young chef

Following on from the tremendous success of last year’s event we’re delighted to announce that the Young Chef of the Year competition is coming back to Abu Dhabi. Taking place at The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa on June 11, we’ll whittle down a list of candidates from across Abu Dhabi before the event itself, until we’re left with just four chefs who will compete in a live cook-off – with the results being determined by a panel of judges and readers themselves. The selected chefs will create their own four-course menu with each course being scored against a set criteria and the eventual winner being revealed on the night.

This year’s heavyweight experts include chief judge Uwe Micheel, president of the Emirates Culinary Guild and director of kitchens at Radisson Hotel Dubai Deira Creek; Scott Price, executive chef at Table 9; David Contreras, executive chef at The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa and Andrew Sherwood, editor of Time Out Abu Dhabi. If you want to take part as a food critic for the evening tickets are on sale through timeouttickets.com now and are priced at Dhs395. This ticket includes a four-course menu cooked by one of the fi nal four chefs, as well as unlimited house beverages.

Last year’s winner was Mohammad Raees, junior sous chef at the St. Regis, Saadiyat Island Resort who said of the night: ‘I was really impressed by the team spirit’. His winning menu was a fi ne dining tour de force that included a starter of sous vide salmon infused in an Asian way and a butternut squash soup with caramelised pear, while his main course of pistachio crusted lamb rack with celeriac puree followed by chocolate twist ‘n’ roll with blueberry mousse helped him take home the top prize. So, what are you budding food critics waiting for?
