5 to try: Abu Dhabi picnic spots

Pack a hamper, fold a blanket and eat in the park

Abu Dhabi has a decent collection of green spaces and many are excellent spots for picnics and barbecues. We’ve rounded up our favourite locations for enjoying the outdoors.

Al Mushrif children’s garden
Just opposite the National Theatre and near Choueifat School, this green space is for women and children only. Relatively serene and well-maintained, ladies can enjoy a quiet picnic here while they watch the little ones play around in the enclosed space.

Zalamat Garden
Located between the Hilton and the InterContinental, this space is surrounded by large arching trees and pleasant walkways that will instantly transport you out of the daily grind of the city. The trees are an excellent source of shade in the heat of the day and many people love to enjoy the venue on the weekends.

Khalidiyah Garden
Driving along Khaleej al Arabi road towards Dubai, there is a large green section bordering the waterway where you can host picnics suitable for all ages. The park does have a few swings and attractions and is large enough that couples can enjoy relative privacy as well.

Khalifa Park
Located near the Twofour54 complex, this large green space is full of all kinds of amenities those families with rambunctious little terrors will enjoy. The area is well maintained, with fountains, canals and lots of greenery that make it a prime outdoor location to visit.

Corniche public park
While there are many spots where you can have picnics along the Corniche, our favourite is near the Sheraton on the Corniche. It is near a large parking space and even has several stations available for grilling. Very popular on the weekends, especially as you are then just a quick walk away from the beach.
