Abu Dhabi sets up relief fund to help struggling families pay school fees

The government fund will also help cover food expenses for those in need during the pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic has taken a huge toll on the financial income of many families and individuals around the world. To help tackle the issue here in Abu Dhabi, a relief fund worth millions of dirhams has been launched to pay private school fees for those in need.

The government has announced that struggling families in the capital can now apply to receive financial support as a special fund has been set up for parents who have lost their jobs or had their wages cut due to the global situation.

As well as school fees, the relief fund is coming from the Together We Are Good scheme recently set up, it will also provide cash to cover food expenses and rent if needed.

The project has been spearheaded by the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi’s Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK).

The news of the initiative broke on Twitter via the Abu Dhabi Media Office account, In a statement, the Abu Dhabi government outlined that the fund is aimed at “parents with children attending private schools in Abu Dhabi who are affected by the current economic challenges, by paying school fees or providing devices for distance learning.”
