Oscars 2022: CODA wins Best Picture at the Academy Awards

There were some surprises on the night, here’s the full winners list

It was a ground-breaking Oscars night in a lot of ways. CODA pipped The Power of the Dog to win Best Picture, crowning its rise from Sundance’s little film that could, to the indie crowd-pleaser that did.

The family drama also picked up a Best Supporting Actor win for Troy Kotsur and a Best Adapted Screenplay win for writer-director Sian Heder.

There was consolation for The Power of the Dog writer-director Jane Campion, who became only the third woman in history to win a Best Director Oscar statue.

Elsewhere, Jessica Chastain won Best Actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Kenneth Branagh won Best Original Screenplay for Belfast, and Drive My Car became the first Japanese film to win Best International Feature for 14 years.

Will Smith won Best Actor for bio-pic King Richard; the story behind the success of two of sports most decorated players ever, tennis champions Serena and Venus Williams. Ariana DeBose won Best Supporting Actress for West Side Story, and CODA’s Troy Kotsur became only the second deaf actor to win an Oscar, after his co-star Marlee Matlin.
