Etisalat forced to pay bill

Company pay Abu Dhabi resident Dhs30 million…

A UAE national has finally won his legal case against etisalat over claims the company used his invention without his approval, it has been reported.

Abu Dhabi First Instance Court ordered etisalat to pay resident Mosa Isa Mosa Al Amiri AED30 million compensation and halt its mobile TV service, Emirates Business reports on Tuesday.

According to the report, Al Amiri sued etisalat after failing to reach an agreement over the firm’s use of his system that transmits high-quality video over the internet.

Etisalat denied the claims and told the court it had bought its mobile TV system from the Chinese company Huawei.

Al Amiri won the case after appealing twice against experts’ verdicts. Last year in court an expert denied any similarities between the invention and etisalat’s system, the paper reports.

On appeal new experts were assigned to the case, who did not consult documentation submitted by etisalat, that found similarities between the two devices not exceeding 20 percent.

However, after appealing again, and a new team of experts assigned, it was found that etisalat’s system depends on the same idea as the patented invention.
