The Municipality of Abu Dhabi has launched a campaign targeting illegal buildings that have been added to roof tops.
The campaign, which covered public health inspections, unauthorised building additions, illegal housing and “disfiguring elements” resulted about 200 notices being issued in a month.
The initiative aims to enhance the image of the city, as well as improving environmental health and safety of the community, news agency WAM reported.
Offences reported included the construction of unlicensed internal and external partitions, unlicensed fixed construction works and the illegal storage of materials and waste.
About 76 buildings of those found in violation of regulations have responded by removing the violations, while 12 others are being monitored to remove the violations before the expiry of the grace period.
Penalties will be enforced against 111 buildings, which have failed to act before the end of the grace period, WAM added.
These violators will be referred to the courts for further action which can include fines, and ordering the offender to pay for the cost of removal of the illegal structures.
Owaidah Al Qubaisi, acting executive director of Municipal Services, said that the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City would make every effort to “prohibit all forms of distortions”.
