There are some pretty weird places on Airbnb, but have you ever seen anywhere quite as strange as this? The bizarre property is aptly named The Crane, and is essentially a big pod lodged in a giant old harbour crane.
The apartment (if you can really call it that) is in one of Amsterdam’s old industrial docks. Overlooking the IJ river, The Crane pod is definitely a bit weird – but it’s also pretty spectacular.
It’s surprisingly spacious, too.
Spread over three floors, and with more than enough room for two people to squeeze into, the property has a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and areas for dining and lounging. It’s also kitted-out with Wi-Fi, air con, a TV and all your usual rental-home stuff. Here are a few more pics of the place.
You’ll find this quirky spot to rest your head on KNSM Island, a man-made isle named after shipping company Koninklijke Nederlandsche Stoomboot-Maatschappij. This area was once one of Amsterdam’s busiest industrial areas. These days it’s better known as a hub for creatives and young professionals, and is within walking distance of the likes of the National Maritime Museum, the Hortus Botanicus gardens and the bars and restaurants of the Oost area.
Managed by ‘aparthotel’ company YAYS, The Crane’s rates start at around £350 ($437) per night. Which is pretty steep, but then again, you are staying in one of Airbnb’s most unique rentals. If you don’t invest in the ‘gram, you’re wasting an experience right?
If all this looks right up your street (and, to be honest, we’d be surprised if it didn’t), you can check The Crane’s availability here.
