Need for Speed: Rivals
The latest Need for Speed instalment is set in an open world, with more than 150km of road to race down and fully customisable cars, including Ferraris and Aston Martins. Set in the fictional Redview County, you can choose to play as a racer or a cop, each with different stories, challenges, and cars to unlock. When you get bored with the single-player mode, though, you’ll be able to seamlessly switch to multi-player and race your friends online.

Injustice: Gods Among Us: Ultimate Edition
Although the original version was released earlier this year, this ultimate edition also includes all the downloadable content that’s since been brought out – so if you haven’t bought it already, now’s the perfect time. This game, from the makers of Mortal Kombat, pits 30 DC Comics characters against each other – from Wonder Woman to the Joker. There’s a story mode to play through, but why would you do that when you can just see what a fight between Batman and Superman would be like?

BioShock Infinite
One of the year’s biggest and most critically acclaimed games, Bioshock Infinite has already been out a few months, so if you haven’t played it yet, you should find out what all the fuss is about. Set in 1912, you play a detective trying to find a young woman. Oh, and this woman has strange powers and is stuck in a floating city, while you’re forced to battle robots and rifts in the space time continuum. It’s already made it onto experts’ lists of the best ever third-generation videogames.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
The newest game in the Legend of Zelda series, A Link Between Worlds also serves as a sequel to one of the very first games. It takes full advantage of the 3DS’ two screens, as well as its 3D graphics engine, which allows lead character Link to jump between levels. You can expect many of the elements seen in past games, from dungeon-exploring to puzzle-solving, which will probably delight anyone who’s played the games before. If you haven’t, this is the best one to start with.

Super Mario 3D World
Super Mario 3D World sees Mario joined by his friends Luigi, Toad and Princess Peach, all of whom are playable characters. You can play with three friends, or by yourself, switching between the characters whenever you feel like it. The game is set across several worlds, and each of them are completely different from the other,so if you get a bit bored of running around a field, it won’t be long before you’re exploring a castle or a snowy forest instead.
