World’s top tower runners to virtually climb Dubai’s Burj Khalifa for charity

Proceeds will go towards underprivileged children in Nepal

Two of the world’s top tower runners have signed up to climb Dubai‘s Burj Khalifa virtually.

Malaysia’s Soh Wai Ching and Gretta Beckett, from Ireland, will be attempting to make it to the top of the world’s tallest tower (virtually, of course) for charity.

Proceeds from the Dubai Sports Council-supported online challenge on Friday will go towards supporting more than over 2,000 underprivileged children in Nepal, Uganda, Peru, Tanzania, and Lebanon impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because the event is virtual, anyone who thinks they’ve got the stamina and fitness to take on the challenge, can do so from anywhere in the world.

The process of the stair climbing participants, who currently hail from the UAE, UK, Malaysia, Ireland, South Africa and Denmark with more set to join, in can be followed on the Strava app.

Top three finishers among men and women will be rewarded, but you don’t have to finish in a podium position to muscle in on the prizes.

Various other giveaways will be up for grabs for things like having the funkiest trainers or the most colourful outfit.

Commenting on her imminent climb, Irishwoman Beckett, who lives in Dubai, said: “Ramadan is a time of deep reflection and charitable acts. Gulf for Good are providing an opportunity to bring people together virtually to have fun, challenge themselves while helping children in need from the safety of their own home.”

“Even though we are apart, Gulf for Good are bringing us together for this fantastic challenge. I am extremely honoured and excited to be a part of it.”
