The latest on the seated scooter ban in Abu Dhabi

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) has outlined what kinds of scooters are allowed in the capital

If you love to ride your scooter in the UAE capital, listen up. The seated scooter ban in Abu Dhabi is taking effect and there are some new rules to know.

A recent announcement by the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) has outlined what kinds of scooters are allowed in the capital, and scooters with seats are now banned in Abu Dhabi. ITC has recently announced that the new rules will be enforced with fines between Dhs200 and Dhs500.

According to a video on the ITC Instagram account, seated scooters are prohibited in the capital. Bicycles and electronic bicycles are still allowed; regular scooters driven by foot and electronic scooters are also still allowed.

However if your scooter has a seat attached or built in, you are no longer allowed to ride it in Abu Dhabi according to the seated scooter ban.

The seated scooters ban is designed to keep pedestrians and riders safe on Abu Dhabi roads.

Besides, scooters with seats banned in Abu Dhabi, the ITC also recently announced rules for where you can ride your scooter on Abu Dhabi roads. You can ride your scooter in the bike lane or on roads with speed limits no higher than 20 kilometres per hour.

ITC has been urging scooter and bicycle users to leave distance between themselves and other cyclists or pedestrians. Electronic scooters can be especially fast, so it’s important to leave enough space to stop if needed to avoid accidents.

Scooter and bicycle riders must also wear protective gear such as helmets and reflective clothing at night.
