Band profile: International Playboys

Meet Heroes’ hard-rockin’ house band

Heroes house band International Playboys has a wide following with its rock’n’roll rhythms and unique adaptations of classics. We asked vocalist Nicola a few questions.

How did the you guys form as International Playboys?
Charles, our bassist, was on the lookout for the right combination of people and over time, through association, we ended up with the lineup we all wanted.

How did you all end up in Abu Dhabi?
We all came here to play music and party!

What are your most requested songs?
Everything from The Beatles, Stone Roses & AC/DC right through to the Black Keys, Pink and even Bastille these days!

What’s your favourite song to play?
Joe likes ‘Somebody Told Me’ by The Killers. Sam’s is ‘Spectrum’ by Florence And The Machine or anything by The Darkness. Charles likes ‘Lonely Boy’ by The Black Keys, and I like ‘Waiting All Night’ by Rudimental.

Are there any other bands in Abu Dhabi you enjoy watching?
We love the guys in Sweet Chilli Jam at PJ’s, and the Jazz bar at the Hilton.

What would you do if you weren’t in the band?
Joe would be a Spitfire pilot, but only for the goggles, Sam trained as a carpenter. My parents wanted me to study either electrical engineering or micro biology.
Heroes, Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi, Hamdan Street (02 616 6101).
