Carrefour stores across the UAE are taking part in International Plastic Bag Free Day (IPBFD) tomorrow (Friday July 3).
The global initiative aims to eliminate single-use plastic bags and takes place on the same day each year.
All-year-round, Carrefour offers customers free share points when using a reusable bag, and on IPBFD they’ll get five points when using the SHARE points.
Emirates Nature-WWF say the UAE has a 94kg per capita consumption of plastic and in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, “an estimated 45% of all plastic resins consumed are used for consumer packaging and 5% for consumer goods”.
It’s why Majid Al Futtaim is pushing to replace single-use plastic bags with eco-bags in its Carrefour stores.
