F1 set for early return to Abu Dhabi?

Bahrain upheaval could mean F1 testing spot for Yas Marina Circuit

Amidst the ongoing political unrest in Bahrain, rumours have been flying about that the final pre-season session scheduled to take place at the country’s Sakhir circuit from March 3-6 could be moved to Abu Dhabi. Yas Marina Circuit’s spokespeople have yet to respond, with the F1 grapevine suggesting than an extended stay at Spain’s Circuit de Catalunya – the venue for the penultimate test – is the other likely option.

Still, there could be little point in the drivers getting a feel for their new cars in the capital’s hot and dry conditions, since there’s a good chance that safety concerns could lead to the Bahrain Grand Prix being scrapped altogether. Just now, F1 head honcho Bernie Ecclestone had handed the decision to the country’s Crown Prince as to whether or not the race goes ahead on March 13. However, while our thoughts obviously go out to those affected by the troubles, the prospect of hearing  Sebastian Vettel and co. unleashing the thunder on Yas Island next week is an undeniably tantalising one.
