Abu Dhabi airport gets touchless ‘fit-to-fly’ technology

Etihad Airways has teamed up with Elenium Automation for the innovations

Travellers flying from Abu Dhabi International Airports on an Etihad Airways flight will experience a contactless health check.

A self-service check-in system called Fit to Fly, designed by Australian company Elenium Automation, can scan your respiratory system, heart rate and temperature, using thermal imagery, motion sensors and voice recognition.

If you check-in using the Etihad app, or online in advance, all you need to do at the airport is go through the Fit to Fly system and remove your mask.

An automated health check will take place before you’re asked certain questions about what you have done in the previous 14 days, answering yes or no or moving your head in the direction of the right answer, which will be picked up by motion sensors.

If you’re given the all-clear, it’s on to the bag drop and the waiting area for your flight.

If there are any concerns, there will be a secondary check by staff.

There’s also an online check on the Etihad website that people can use before travelling.

Etihad has also introduced an interactive travel map with up-to-date travel information and COVID-19 regulations.
