Recent findings by experts have revealed some alarming facts about the United Arab Emirates’ drinking water resources. Nearly half of the nation’s water is consumed from groundwater. A panel of scientists who spoke at a Future Cities Conference on October 3, warned future conflict between nations might arise over water as opposed to oil. They stressed current findings indicate the extraction of groundwater in the UAE is much faster than the regeneration rate. Although this has not been confirmed by all the emirates, efforts are under way to examine the impact more closely.
