Ever fancied losing a few pounds quickly without the dangers of having to go under the knife? TOAD sends Alex Hammond to the newest branch of Urban Male Lounge to see if it’s possible.
The promise:
To shed pounds and relieve fluid retention through massage’s version of lyposuction whilst feeling relaxed.
The experience:
Gourmet Abu Dhabi, the TOAD’s Best Burgers feature and an impending Abu Dhabi’s Best Brunches guide has gotten the best of us, so we decide we’re in need of a little help in the shaping department before we hit the Abu Dhabi nightlife scene for another round of weekend partying.
So, in search of a treatment that will help us fight the bulging problem that’s having a serious effect on our waistline, we head to the new Urban Male Lounge, recently opened in World Trade Mall, the 4th branch of the male grooming chain.
The treatment in question is the Heaven slim and lymph drain massage, and we’re very excited to see whether it lives up to the promise of shedding up to four pounds from the body.
The spa itself is spotless and chic, as you would expect from a brand new establishment, and the staff are all friendly and eager to assist.
After a quick shower we are shown into a massage room that exudes tranquility and peace, and this quickly calms our fears that we may have bitten off more than we could chew by opting for a full massage (which we don’t do very often).
An hour flies by, we are comfortable and relaxed throughout, and the massage is soothing and enjoyable. But as much as we have enjoyed the experience, what we are truly interested in is the results.
The results:
It works! Any sceptism we might have had pre-treatment is put firmly to bed as soon as we examine the results. We feel tighter and lighter all over. Whether we’ve lost the full four pounds or not (perhaps even more) is uncertain, but we are definitely pleased with the results.
The pros:
Assuming the reason you’ve selected this particular massage is that you feel you could do with it, the biggest pro is the fact that it does what it says it will. The experience is also great, it’s an extremely relaxing experience.
The cons:
If you have any tension or strains pre-treatment (as we did in our calves) then the massage can be a fraction on the rough side to begin with, but once you push through the first few minutes this disappears.
