New literary competition for UAE school kids launched

Students can enter writing, reading and performing competitions

Got a budding author in the family? Or maybe a little bookworm whose head is never out of a book? Emirates Airline Festival of Literature is looking for the UAE’s best writers, readers and performers.

The book fair is once again on the hunt for talented literature-lovers to take part in its annual competitions, and there are some cool prizes on offer for the winners, too.

The various competitions offer little ones the chance to show off their story writing skills, comprehension knowledge and poetry performance.

In addition, the brand-new Montegrappa Letter Writing competition judges kids on their handwriting as well as their ability to compose a letter.

All competitions will be held in English and Arabic, with the finals and award ceremonies scheduled to take place in March 2021.

Commenting on the launch of this year’s competitions, festival director of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, Ahlam Bolooki, said: “They offer exceptional creative outlets through creative writing and poetry performance, and the reading challenge is always exciting and hotly contested. This year we are excited to launch a new handwriting competition too. The enjoyment gained in taking part in these competitions will, we hope, give them a life-long love of reading for pleasure.”
