Everything you need to know about to travelling to and from Oman

International travel has restarted

Oman has reopened to international travel, and if you’re looking to travel to and from Oman, here’s an essential guide on everything you need to know. Keep your eyes peeled here for any further developments and updates.

Who can travel to Oman?

As of now, tourism in Oman is still not permitted – only Omani citizens, residents with valid residency visas, diplomats and GCC nationals can travel without prior approval.

Do I need to take a COVID-19 test?

All travellers (except for children under the age of 15) are required to show a negative test result from within 96 hours of arrival. Other than Omani citizens, all visitors need to have international health insurance that covers COVID-19 treatments for a minimum of one month.

Which airlines are flying to and from Oman?

A number of airlines are travelling to and from Oman. Oman’s national airline, Oman Air, has resumed flights to 18 cities in twelve countries including Dubai, London and Istanbul. Oman’s low-cost airline Salam Air is also flying to India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sudan and both of the Omani airlines are offering free COVID-19 coverage to those travelling with the airlines.

The UAE’s Emirates, flydubai and Etihad Airways have also resumed flights to and from the capital, Muscat.

What’s it like at the airport?

Those travelling from Oman must arrive three or four hours before departure and carry out online check-in before arriving. Travellers are also expected to complete a health declaration form to confirm they are free from COVID-19 and all symptoms associated with the disease.

Those travelling to Oman are expected to take another test upon arrival. The COVID-19 test takes place before immigration and needs to be booked and paid for in advance. The test costs OMR25 and results usually take about 24 hours. Travellers will need to self-isolate until they receive their results – click here for more information and to book your test.

Face masks must also be worn at all times in the airport and aboard an aircraft and temperature checks will also be carried out upon entry to airports.

Hand sanitiser is also provided throughout the terminal, and facilities are regularly sanitised by staff.

Do I need to quarantine?

Anyone travelling to Oman also needs to download both the Tarassud+ app and the HMushrif app.

If you’re travelling to Oman for seven days or less, you just need to register on the Tarassud+ app and if your test is positive you will need to quarantine.

If you’re staying for eight days or longer, you’ll need to wear a Tarassud+ tracking bracelet (this is provided) and quarantine for two weeks – even if your test result is negative. After a two week period of quarantining, HMushrif app will show the nearest medical centre to have the bracelet removed.
