Environmentally friendly biodegradable face mask developed in the UAE

Khalifa University of Science and Technology have created the mask

Face masks have become the norm in the UAE and around the world.

Some of us have splashed out on reusable masks that come in all shapes, colours and patterns, and others are using the disposable masks that before 2020 were most often seen only in hospitals.

Helping to reduce the environmental impact of disposable masks, a new type of biodegradable face mask has been developed in the UAE.

A team at Khalifa University of Science and Technology have developed the environmentally-friednly masks in partnership with the University of Salerno in Italy.

The NavaMASK has the same anti-viral properties of a normal face mask but is made of biodegradable filtration materials so it can be disposed of without ending up in a landfill.

In addition, the mask can also be washed and used several times before eventually being disposed of.

The team behind the masks ‘saw the crucial need for environmentally-friendly masks which also maintained the highest safety and breathability standards’.

Protection from bacteria and good for the planet? That’s win-win in our book.
