Abu Dhabi Drivers face Dhs1,000 fine for throwing away face masks

Abu Dhabi Police have reminded motorists of the rules

Abu Dhabi drivers have been warned to be responsible when disposing of personal protective equipment (PPE).

The police reminded all drivers that fines are in place for anyone who disposes of face masks on the road in the UAE capital.

A fine of Dhs1,000 can be given to any driver caught throwing away a face mask or gloves. In addition, drivers will also be awarded six black points on their UAE driver’s licence.

All UAE residents are asked to dispose of face masks and gloves responsibly, to protect the environment and also to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

A team at Khalifa University of Science and Technology have developed the environmentally-friendly masks in partnership with the University of Salerno in Italy.

The NavaMASK has the same anti-viral properties of a normal face mask but is made of biodegradable filtration materials so it can be disposed of without ending up in a landfill.
