Jabel Hafit Desert Park has reopened for the new season.

The attraction in Al Ain is the only destination in the UAE where you can get up close to 5,000 year-old beehive tombs, offering a unique glimpse into the past.

Head along and you can discover fascinating archaeological treasures and historical remains that give insight into life in the country thousands of years ago and the ancient civilizations that lived there.

Jebel Hafit Desert Park is one of the leading cultural sites of Al Ain, which make up the United Arab Emirates’ first designated World Heritage Site.

UNESCO has noted that Al Ain is of “Outstanding Universal Value”, with its sites providing “exceptional testimony to the development of successive prehistoric cultures in a desert region, from the Neolithic to the Iron Age”.

Historical Significance

Jebel Hafit has a rich history and has long been a site known to humans dating back to Neolithic herders through Bronze Age and all the way to the present day.

Evidence of ancient settlements can be found with 5,000 year-old beehive tombs created in Bronze Age as places of rest for their kin.

Other archaeological wonders include the ancient irrigation system forged in the Iron Age known as ‘aflaj’ that allowed settlers and travelers to create a water supply in harsh conditions.

Bedouins have been stopping at this site for thousands of years to exploit resources, rest and make the most of the environment to encoder the harsh desert climate.

Head along and you can see traces of mankind dating back 8,000 years at the site and understand how those in the past learned to live off of the land and make the most of the natural world.

On-site activities

There’s more to see and do at the site these days than explore historical wonders.

Jebel Hafit Desert Park offers a range of activities including cycling, horse and camel riding, buggy riding, hiking and picnics in shaded shelters throughout the park.

Want to spend the night under the stars? A public campsite allows you to pitch a tent and spend an evening outdoors or you can book into one of the glamping domes to experience a little luxury.
