Abu Dhabi gift ideas

It’s Christmas in Abu Dhabi, which means you can forget all about lovingly crafted wooden toys and fill your stockings with precious metals

Diamond eyes

If you’re anything like the vision-impaired writers on the Time Out Abu Dhabi team, you probably spend a huge part of your everyday life searching for your glasses. In which case, these are the ideal present for you. The Stepper Solid Gold collection, designed in Germany by fabled optician (is there such a thing?) Hans Stepper, consists of eyewear bright enough to make a blind person believe they may have had a breakthrough. Launched earlier this month in Sharjah, the frames are apparently 18-carat solid gold and the hinges are encrusted with diamonds and precious stones. With bling that bright, they’ll act as a guiding light so you’d need never lose your glasses again – which is lucky, as the cheapest pair are around Dhs10,000.

Glamouse

Dear Santa… Please won’t you put this nifty faux-crystal-studded mouse in our stocking? It makes our computer look so very pretty. Yes, it’s cheesy, but it’s also oh-so cool – just like a tech fairy princess (the very best kind). We want! We really do want!

Off the cuff

The Ferrari World theme park is set to open in Abu Dhabi next summer, and you wouldn’t want to be seen dead on the world’s fastest rollercoaster without these branded silver cufflinks. Make sure you keep the logo visible at all times, though, otherwise you could be mistaken for a fan of LloydsTSB – not really what you’d call the hippest brand in the store.

So you’re not happy with your own reflection, eh? Then how about going all Warhol and cheering yourself up with this fragmented, pop-art mirror? The glass is broken up into 63 disrupted pieces, each displacing light in an entirely different direction. You’ll look like you’ve been chopped up and spread all over the place, which may or may not be a good thing. Not really ideal for checking your hair, though, unless you want to attract strange looks.

Neck and neck

Think Audrey Hepburn in classic flick Breakfast at Tiffany’s, but at a whopping great discount. We’re not quite sure what this Shoe Mart centrepiece is made of, or indeed what Shoe Mart are doing making neckwear, but, from a distance, it undoubtedly looks the part – and with this amount of sparkle, nobody with working eyeballs is likely to get close enough to perform a proper inspection.
