The best video games coming out in 2021

The PS5, Switch, PC and Xbox games to get excited about

Age of Empires 4

This is the first new Age of Empires release in 16 years and will be set in medieval times. The trailer looks a little more cartoonish than previous versions but things could change before it’s as-yet-undecided release date. The real-time strategy game has a loyal following who will be delighted to see it return to the setting of its best release.

Gran Turismo 7

Did you think Playstation would release a new console without an updated version of their iconic driving game? It’s time to dust off your racing chair and get ready to embrace the PS5’s new DualSense controller – the game should really make the most of its resistance capabilities. Expect it to be released in the first half of the year.

Halo Infinite

The first person shooter is back, and this time with Master Chief – the central character of the first three in the franchise – in tow. It should have been out by now, but we’re happy to wait for the unspecified date, especially when you see what the new Xbox can do when it comes to the landscapes.

Final Fantasy XVI

If you can’t work out those Roman numerals, this is number 16 in the series and is available exclusively on PS5. The role-playing, erm, fantasy from Square Enix is set in Valisthea and centres on a battle to stop a disease. We don’t know when it’s coming out, but we do know it’s going to be popular.

Pokemon Snap

Now you’re talking… A new Pokemon game. The original version of Snap was brought out in 1999 for the Nintendo 64 (remember them?) and focused on your character (the wonderfully named Todd Snap) who moved through a world of rare Pokemon and took pictures of them (snap… get it now?). There aren’t many details about this one, or when it’s likely to come out, but we’re keen to find out more.

Resident Evil 8: Village

The eighth instalment in Capcom’s legendary series picks up where Resident Evil 7: Biohazard left off (naturally). Ethan Winters has moved onto happier times with his wife Mia, but a blast from the past turns up and disrupts the harmony, unleashing more evil into their lives. Typical. It should be out in early 2021, but there’s no specific date yet.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

We can probably all agree that the original Breath of the Wild is fantastic, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be better. There’s only been a trailer for this sequel so far, but it’s enough to get our hearts racing. There’s no release date yet but we’re sure all Switch users will be keeping an eye out for the eventual drop.
