Top names confirmed for golf’s Dubai Desert Classic

Emirates Golf Club plays host to the world-famous sports tournament

Justin Rose, Lucas Herbert, Sergio Garcia and Tommy Fleetwood are among the top golfing names that have been confirmed for the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic, which takes place next month in Dubai.

The event, which will be held at Emirates Golf Club, will take place from January 28 to 31, 2021. This year only invited guests will be able to attend, but the action will be broadcast live on sports networks.

2017 winner Sergio Garcia will be looking to regain his title, while European Ryder Cup hero Tommy Fleetwood is also on the line-up.

“I love coming to Dubai and obviously having won here I have great memories to look back on. It is one of my favourite events,” said Garcia.

Fleetwood added: “I always look forward to starting my season in the Middle East and Dubai with its history is a popular tournament in that swing. There are so many great winners of the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic and I would love to be one of them one day.”

Justin Rose and the defending champion, Australian golfer Lucas Herbert, will also be heading to Emirates Golf Club for the tournament.

Rose will be making his first appearance at the Dubai tournament since 2009.

Tyrrell Hatton, who is ranked tenth in the Official World Golf Ranking, is set to play, as is bright young star Collin Morikaw, who is ranked seventh in the Official World Golf Ranking. The latter will be making his tournament debut.

The 23-year-old said: “When you look back at some of the players who have won the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic, you realise that it is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world and I am looking forward to trying to adding my name to the roll of honour. I have been told that the Majlis course is a fantastic setting and I cannot wait to get there and see it for myself.”

Spanish star Garcia returns to the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic for the 12th time in his career having won the title in 2017.

OMEGA President and CEO, Raynald Aeschlimann, said, “As title partner and passionate supporter of golf around the globe, we are delighted to announce this lineup of world-class players and we look forward to seeing how the competition unfolds in this spectacular setting, especially in a year when so many great sporting events have had to postpone or cancel.”

We can’t wait for a year of top sport.
