Conor McGregor coming to Abu Dhabi for next UFC Fight Island

Triple-header will take place in January 2021

UFC is returning to Abu Dhabi in January 2021 and this time Conor McGregor will be fighting.

The Irishman makes a long-awaited return to the octagon in a rematch with Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 on January 23.

The news was confirmed by UFC president Dana White on social media.

It is the final headline bout is the Fight Island triple-header.

Fight Island has already taken place in Abu Dhabi twice, the most recent event being in October.

McGregor previously fought Poirier in 2014, in a match that lasted less than two minutes and he’s back for the first time in a year, after defeating Donald Cerrone in just 40 seconds last January.

The 32-year-old had announced his retirement but will now be retuning to action.

The first event for the next Fight Island will take place on January 16 when featherweight contenders Max Holloway and Calvin Kattar meet. That will be followed by a bout between Leon Edwards and Khamzat Chimaev on January 20.

While no more information has been released about the events, previously they have taken place behind closed doors and with the entire crew being keep in a COVID-safe ‘bubble’ on Yas Island. You can read more about how that worked here.

Keep your eyes peeled to Time Out for more information on the event as it is released.
