Recycle your Christmas tree at Waitrose UAE

You can get rid of your tree responsibly

Christmas is over (sniff sniff) and that means it’s time for all the decorations to come down.

Wondering what to do with that beautiful real Christmas tree you put up at the beginning of December? You can have it recycled at Waitrose.

Real Christmas trees are totally recyclable and can either be shredded and turned into chippings, replanted or they can be turned into fertilizer.

So if you want to get rid of your tree in an environmentally-friendly way (don’t we all) then drop it off at any Waitrose in the UAE where it will then be taken on to be recycled into fertilizer at a composting facility.

The resulting fertilizer will then be used by various farms around the UAE.

Provided the trees are real pine and undecorated, Waitrose will accept them up until January 15.

“At Waitrose, we place the highest value on environmental responsibility and are always looking at ways to enhance our offering for a healthier future, for people and planet,” said Sunil Kumar, CEO of Fine Fare Foods, which runs Waitrose UAE.

“We believe that by inspiring our customers to shop in a more sustainable way, we can help shape a more secure food future for everyone, and make waste a thing of the past.

“The Christmas tree composting initiative underscores our commitment to reduce our environmental impact, while also meeting the needs of our growing conscious consumer base. At Waitrose, we will always strive to make as positive and sustainable an impact in everything we do.”

This isn’t the only environmental initiative the supermarket is involved in, it recently introduced a small fee of 25 fils for its plastic bags in a big to encourage people to re-use them.

In addition, Waitrose has also committed to making its own-brand packaging reusable, widely recyclable or home compostable by 2023 along with several other pledges such as phasing out non-recyclable plastic from all branded and own-brand packaging by 2023.
Until Jan 15. Various locations across Dubai including Al Barari, Al Thanya and Marina Mall and in Abu Dhabi including Al Zeina, Eatern Mangrove and Etihad Towers, www.waitrose.ae.
