UAE to reopen airspace, land and sea borders to Qatar

Travel will resume between the two countries on January 9

The UAE is set to reopen all land, sea and air ports to Qatar from tomorrow (Saturday January 9), the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced.

In a statement on the Emirates News Agency website (WAM), His Excellency Khalid Abdullah Belhoul said that the UAE will begin to end all measures taken against Qatar.

Travel between the two countries stopped on June 5, 2017.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar also agreed to reopen all airspace, land and sea borders.

Qatar Airways has already begun rerouting flights as of last night, with the first flight travelling via Saudi Arabian airspace leaving Doha for Johannesburg at 8.45pm.

It comes after the Al-Ula statement was signed at the 41st Gulf Summit in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday January 5.
