New rules for entering Abu Dhabi from January 17

Here’s what you need to know about crossing the border

Planning on visiting Abu Dhabi or heading overseas to travel?

The Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee has announced that the requirements for entering Abu Dhabi have changed, and the new regulations are effective from Sunday January 17 onwards.

As part of Abu Dhabi’s efforts and measures to curb the spread of COVID-19, the updated rules for entering Abu Dhabi are as follows:

• A negative PCR or DPI test from the previous 48 hours must be presented in order to enter Abu Dhabi. The window was previously 72 hours.

• When staying in Abu Dhabi for four or more consecutive days, a PCR is required on day four of entry.

• When staying in Abu Dhabi for eight or more consecutive days, a PCR is required on day eight of entry. This is in addition to the test required on day four.

• The day of arrival into Abu Dhabi is counted as day one. For example: if you’re entering Abu Dhabi on Sunday and staying for four or more consecutive days, a PCR test would be required on Wednesday, and so on.

• Anyone who fails to take the required test on day four and day eight is liable to be fined.

• These procedures apply to all UAE residents except those who have been vaccinated as part of the national vaccination programmes, plus volunteers in the vaccine clinical trials who have active icons (the letter “E” or a gold star) on the Al Hosn app.
