Many hope that the new UAE COVID-19 update will see PCR tests dropped from 14 days to 30 days and masks scrapped as at present it is mandatory to wear a mask in indoor public spaces and not abiding by the rules could land you a Dhs3,000 fine.

The last time there was an update from the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority was on Tuesday, August 23.

The update stated that secondary school students over the age of 12 attending public school had to have a PCR test before returning to school after the holidays.

The negative PCR test result had to not exceed 96 hours from the start of the first day of school.

It wasn’t just school students over the age of 12 who had to undertake a PCR test, before public schools returned for the new term, as administrative and educational staff and service providers were also required to obtain a negative PCR test result.

At present, in educational settings masks must be worn while inside for all and the option of remote learning is available for students and staff who are infected with COVID-19.

Students who are not vaccinated for health reasons or who have been exempt from vaccinations can attend classes.

Schools do not need to take students and school worker’s temperatures anymore and those who have a fever are to not to attend classes.

Mandatory social distancing inside educational facilities was also removed in August and left to the discretion of each facility.
