Abu Dhabi road restrictions: new speed limit in place today

A new lower speed limit applies to a key Abu Dhabi road

Listen up motorists. If you’re planning on driving from the UAE capital to Dubai any time soon, you’ll need to be aware of the new Abu Dhabi road restrictions that have been put in place as of today.

On Saturday, Abu Dhabi police announced that new Abu Dhabi road restrictions will be put in place on Monday, September 26, and that motorists will have to adhere to a new speed limit on a key Abu Dhabi road.

The Abu Dhabi road restrictions include the the new lower speed limit is a 20km reduction from the former 120kph limit.

Abu Dhabi police has confirmed that the Abu Dhabi road restrictions also applies to the road to Qasr Al Bahr Intersection in both directions.

Abu Dhabi police has said that the decision was made to enhance traffic safety. Radars will not record driving over 100 kilometres per hour on that stretch of road, which extends for roughly 12 to 13 kilometres, as a traffic violation.

Exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than 80kmh will lead to a Dhs3,000 fine, 23 black points and vehicle impound for 20 days, while exceeding the maximum speed limit by 20kmh will lead to a Dhs300 fine.

Currently, Abu Dhabi police has not said how long the Abu Dhabi road restrictions will stay in place, nor has it confirmed when the Abu Dhabi road restrictions will come to an end.

However, speed signs along the street have now been updated to reflect the new speed limit. Drivers should also be aware that there is no grace speed allowance in Abu Dhabi, which means there are hefty fines on their way to you if you exceed the limit.

The Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street is one of the busiest streets that connects the UAE capital to Dubai. It cost Dhs5 billion to build and was first opened in 2012, helping to cut down traffic from one end of Abu Dhabi island to another to just 15 minutes.
