Musicians hoping to strike a chord and play for Expo 2020 Dubai Orchestra

Deadline for audition submission fast approaching

Expo 2020 Dubai has some serous legacy goals, but right now the focus is on the present and organisers want you to be involved.

It’s a key factor of the driving force behind the Firdaus Women’s Orchestra, Expo’s in-house band due to be creatively led by and mentored by renowned composer and songwriter AR Rahman.

The Grammy and Oscar winner will compose music for the orchestra’s inaugural performance, which will star 50 female musicians and showcase their talent to a global audience.

But to be in with a chance of a seat among the 50, maestros will have to impress Rahman and Expo bosses – and time is running out to do so.

The final deadline for musicians to submit their audition videos is Thursday February 4.

Rahman said: “The Firdaus Women’s Orchestra will feature diverse musicians from across the region.

“Dubai is a forerunner to the new world and the ensemble will reflect what the city stands for – a fascinating and extraordinary confluence of cultures. I am looking forward to being part of Firdaus’ promising journey.”

Audition submissions first launched in 2020 and the application link temporarily closed after organisers voted in favour of postponing Expo 2020 by one year to allow all participants to safely navigate the impact of the pandemic.

Expo 2020 Dubai – the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region – will run from October 1, 2021 until March 31, 2022.
