Face masks are now mandatory for restaurant staff across UAE, including chefs and servers, it has been announced today.
Rules around face masks have loosened in Abu Dhabi this week, with masks no longer mandatory across the UAE from tomorrow, Wednesday September 28.
Masks have also been dropped in the aviation sector, with Emirates airline today announcing that wearing masks inflight on Dubai bound routes is optional.
So far, three areas have been exempt from the new rules, with masks still required to be worn on public transport and in hospitals and mosques.
In an update from National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, the fourth group has been added to this list.

All food service providers across the UAE need to keep their masks on.
So as you head off to your next restaurant booking without a mask, keep in mind that those serving you will still be wearing them.
Not easy in hot kitchens and busy restaurants, and NCEMA thanked frontline workers for their “devotion and efforts”.
“All food service providers and those infected and suspected cases must also wear face masks,” confirmed a tweet from NCEMA.
In Abu Dhabi, further rules apply, as Al Hosn green status will be needed to visit tourism venues, including hotels and attractions.
However, green pass validity on Al Hosn has been extended to 30 days. It was previously only 14 days.
This means that from September 28, negative PCR test on the app will give green pass validity for 30 days.
After that period, the app will turn grey and you’ll need to re-test.
