Everything to expect from the Jeep Tough Mudder in the UAE

When the going gets tough… the tough get going

Tough Mudders are not for the faint of heart. Even the reduced obstacle versions can dash dreams of earning coveted completion medals – or head bands in this case.

They serve up unforgettable (for reasons right and wrong) challenges of physical strength and mental fortitude, daring participants to take that next step despite every sinew in their calves, ankles, quads and glutes screaming for them to call it quits.

Originally scheduled to take place on Friday February 26 but subsequently pushed back because of heightened health and safety restrictions, the Jeep Tough Mudder will now take place in Fujairah on Friday April 9.

Ras Al Khaimah will, as planned, host its version of the race on Friday March 19, but the Dubai edition, originally billed for April, has been pushed back until Q4.

Nic Cartwright said: “With event delays last year due to COVID-19 we wanted to give people more opportunity to take on the Tough Mudder challenge this year while also getting to explore the UAE.

“We can’t wait to see people taking on the Fujairah course for the first time.”

Two versions have been thrown down before would-be Mudders.

The ‘kinder’ 5km route will take runners over, under and through a minimum of ten obstacles.

For the accomplished out there, the ‘Classic’ version throws at least 20 obstructions between you and the finish-line, testing resolve every step of the way.

Of course, sporting events across the world have been forced to adapt to the obstacles thrown up by the global health pandemic.

And this series has been no exception.

Operating at 60 percent capacity, obstacles have been reworked to meet COVID-19 safety guidelines and keep Mudders safe.

All participants must wear a face mask, practice two-metre social distancing rules, and avoid gathering in large crowds.

A COVID-19 declaration will be built into the existing e-waiver that all racers sign when purchasing tickets.

Teams are still welcome to sign up for the event, though, which will be a relief for entrants who need a boost up on to the monkey bars.

Whether flying solo or taking on the challenge with pals, be sure to get involved – there’s nothing worse than a stick in the mud.

Updated dates

All Tough Mudder Fujairah tickets will automatically be valid for the revised date, but those who wish to receive a refund will be fully reimbursed and should contact support@toughmudder.ae by Sunday 28 February.

Those who have already purchased a ticket for Tough Mudder Dubai are welcome to enter either the Fujairah or Ras Al Khaimah event for free, as well as keeping their ticket to Tough Mudder Dubai. Ticket holders are similarly entitled to a refund.
