UAE’s Hope probe nine short days from Mars arrival

Sheikh Mohammed marks countdown with Tweet

It’s T-minus nine days until the UAE’s Hope probe arrives at Mars, and the whole nation is looking to the skies in expectation.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai stoked the fires of anticipation today with a tweet confirming the space mission was a little over a week from reaching the Red Planet.

The probe’s successful arrival will make the UAE the fifth nation in the world to reach the Red Planet after the United States, Soviet Union, China, the European Space Agency and India, and the third to make the feat at the first attempt. Sheikh Mohammed Tweeted: “We are 9 days away from the arrival of UAE’s Hope probe to Mars in the first Arab interplanetary mission.

“The UAE will be the 5th nation to reach the Red Planet. The probe has a 50% success rate in entering Mars’ orbit, but we achieved 90% of our goals in building new knowledge.”

The Hope probe has travelled a whopping 493 million kilometres over seven long months.

It’s been an out-of-this-world story and we can’t wait to see how it ends.
