India updates arrival rules for travellers from the Middle East

Expect longer wait times and stricter controls

If you’re travelling to India from the UAE, you may have to wait longer on arrival due to new rules introduced today (Tuesday February 22).

Travellers from the Middle East, Europe and UK could face delays, according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Stricter rules are being introduced at entry points in the country to help stop the spread of new, mutant strains of COVID-19.

“All three variants of the virus, from the UK, South Africa and Brazil, have demonstrated increased transmissibility,” the Ministry said.

Airlines have been advised to warn passengers that transit times could be a minimum of six to eight hours for connecting domestic flights.

All travellers on transit flights from the Middle East, Europe or UK will also have to declare their travel history from the past 14 days. Passengers who are not in transit, but are coming from those countries and have travelled elsewhere in the past 14 days, will also have to self-declare. They will also have to upload a negative COVID-19 test.

To fill in a self-declaration form visit: www.newdelhiairport.in. This applies to all destinations in India.

“All travellers arriving from or transiting through flights from the Middle East, Europe or the UK, shall be mandatorily subjected to self-paid confirmatory molecular tests on arrival at Indian airports,” the Ministry has ordered.

Passengers arriving into India must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test with a 72-hour validity.
